Barbara graduated from North High School, Omaha, Nebraska, and attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha. She also attended Omar Gibson Vo-Tech School in Reeds Spring, Missouri. Barbara worked as a counselor for autistic children, teenage prostitutes and for the Burrell Center for Children. She was with Al-Anon for 29 years and an entrepreneur of various business ventures. Barbara sat on many non-profit boards in the area as well as being a member of AWON and Jobs Daughters. Her mission in life was to constantly serve others.
Barbara loved God and celebrated life every day with Him. She had daily struggles with her cancer. Because of this, she kept a journal that has been put into e-book form, “Living With Cancer”. It is dedicated to AWON friends, Rik and Dianna Pierson of Santa Barbara, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Douglas Mehrer, of Kansas City, Missouri and Ronald Mehrer of Papillion, Nebraska; as well as three grandchildren, Samantha Rogers, Makayla Mehrer, both of Kansas City, Missouri, and Corbin Peterson-Mehrer of Papillion, Nebraska; two great-grandchildren, Reagan Shelton and Tatum Laughlin.
In following with Barbara’s wishes, she has donated herself to research through the Genesis Program.
