Bill was a very social man who never met a stranger. As a teen, he entertained our troops as a ventriloquist with the U.S.O. in Philadelphia. He worked as a mechanic, industrial arts teacher and a piano tuner. Bill’s hobby was clocks. He was loved by family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Irene McKenna. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Claire Eckert, of the home; four sons, William Alfred Eckert III and wife Sandra of Pennsylvania, Kenneth A. Eckert and wife Jean of Pennsylvania, Tom A. Eckert and wife Kathy of Kirbyville, Missouri, David A. Eckert and wife Claudia of Jonesboro, Arkansas; a daughter, Deborah Louise Ottness and husband Rollin Ottness, Sr. of Minnesota; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Monday, February 1st, at Peace Lutheran Church, 350 State Dr., Hollister, Missouri, with Pastor Emil Bartos officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association- Greater MO Chapter, Hospice Compassus of Branson or the ALS Association.
