Born February, 14, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Charlene was the daughter of the late Charles and Grayce (Webber) Poos. She graduated from Thomas Carr High School, Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1960. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
Charlene had fond memories of growing up in the lodge her parents owned on the banks of the Chippewa River in Ojibwa, Wisconsin. Moving back to Indianapolis after living in a small town was a big adjustment for her. One day while enjoying a Coke and French fries, a classmate walked over to the jukebox and selected “I Wanna Walk You Home.” He did walk her home and that was the beginning of a romance that lasted 56 years. On May 19, 1962, Charlene and Robert A. Lawhorn were married at Little Flower Catholic Chapel in Indianapolis.
For many years, Charlene worked as a paralegal at a large law firm in Indianapolis. She enjoyed being a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America. After moving to Branson in 2008, she took art lessons and enjoyed painting, reading, going to casinos, collecting recipes, and her dogs and cats. Charlene loved sitting on the front porch with her family and visiting with neighbors or just enjoying the quiet beauty of the Ozarks. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Robert of Branson; a son, Robert Alan, Jr. of Mooreville, Indiana; a daughter, Kristina Marie Paulton of Branson; a sister, Karen Saddarth of Ratcliff, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Michelle Denise Pease; and a brother, Charles Poos.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Charlene may be made to Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care of Branson. Charlene, a beautiful, compassionate, loving woman that was dearly loved, will be missed and always cherished.
