Jim served our country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a Senior Engineer with AT&T for 33 years. He set up the first under polar ice cap communication. Jim built his own short wave radios, he enjoyed digging holes with his backhoe, riding his Goldwing motorcycle and traveling. Most of all, Jim loved God, his church and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Catherine Charlson; and a daughter, Maryann Charlson.
Jim is survived by his wife, Denise Charlson of the home; a son, John Charlson and wife Marti of Kansas City, Missouri; a step-son, Brian McKown of Williamsburg, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Sierra Charlson, Jake and Jordan Masterson, Brette and Blayke McKown.
Burial will be held at a later time in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Memorial contributions in memory of Jim may be made to Mt. Olivet Freewill Baptist Church.
