Jo proudly served our country during the Korean War in the Women’s Air Corps, building radios. Throughout her lifetime, she was a dedicated civil servant, served on military bases, worked for the U.S. Postal Service, conducted surveys for Medicare, and worked other jobs. With a kind heart, Jo enjoyed fellowship with the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild, her church involvement, travel with friends and time with her beloved grandchildren. Her dedicated cat Yardley was a sweet companion and a blessing. Jo will be remembered for her loving and generous nature. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert C. Powell; husband, Douglas E. Pendleton; and a brother, Tom Sharp.
Jo is survived by two daughters, Nikki and husband Gary Gunn of Berryville, Arkansas, and Robin and husband Mark Kastner of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Cameron, Taylor, Stephen and Elliott; a brother, Mike (Childs) and wife Sandra Sharp; a sister-in-law, Ruth Sharp; and four nephews, John, Tom, Ron and Mike.
A private family gathering will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, at a later time. Memorial contributions in memory of Jo Pendleton may be made to the United Methodist Council on Relief (UMCOR) or Castaway Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.) in Springfield, Missouri.
