Joann Elaine Eckstrom, age 79, of Renville, Minnesota, and Hollister, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016. She was born November 19, 1936, in St. James, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar and Ethel Mossengren. Joann was joined in marriage February 12, 1955, to Ivan P. Eckstrom. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
Joann was a wonderful homemaker and cook who was always there with love and support. She enjoyed collecting antiques and having a big crowd at her house. Christmas was always a big deal for Joann. She loved baking oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies and other goodies. Joann enjoyed her time in Branson, Missouri, and the time she spent at Big Kandiyohi Lake in Minnesota. Most of all, Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ronald Mossengren.
Joann is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ivan Eckstrom of Renville, Minnesota and Hollister, Missouri; a son, Mark Eckstrom and wife Norine of Sarasota, Florida; three daughters, Susan Ledeboer and husband Joel of Prinsburg, Minnesota, Kris Thompson and fiancé Curly Garrison of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Julie Dikken and husband Greg of Renville, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Radunz of Waco, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Joann’s life will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Peace Lutheran Church, 350 State Dr., Hollister, Missouri, with Pastor Emil Bartos officiating. Burial will be held at a later time in Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Joann may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church Landscaping Fund. A celebration of Joann’s life will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at First Lutheran Church in Renville, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 5-7:00 pm, at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville.
