A Homegoing Celebration will be held for John Wells at Salem Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 15 at 7:00pm. John passed away on Saturday, September 12, in Branson West where he was surrounded by his family. John and his wife Cheryl retired to the Theodosia area in 2012 after raising their family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where John was a registered Professional Engineer working for the Louisiana Department of Transportation. After serving as a firefighter and driver for the East Baton Rouge Parish Fire Department for 18 years he returned to college and graduated from LSU in 1996 and practiced engineering until his retirement. John was born in December of 1948 in Wichita, Kansas to Melvin G. Wells and Elizabeth Lichlyter Schwartz. He attended one year of high school in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and then attended and graduated from Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas. Though he lived in Baton Rouge for 40 plus years he returned to the Ozarks with his family many times on vacation and for class reunions and felt privileged to retire there. He enjoyed becoming a part of the community and spending time outdoors in the beautiful surroundings of God’s creation.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Sheryl Schwartz Rakes. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cheryl Friemel Wells and four children; Shane Wells, wife Holly and their three daughters Willow, Shiloh and Lillia, Kelly Wells, Juliette Wells de Silva and husband Garuka, all of Baton Rouge and Zachary Wells of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his brother Bob Schwartz and wife Betty, sister Dorothy Wells Tucker and husband Joe, brother Ray Wells and wife Sally, brother Larry Schwartz and wife Teresa and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A service will also be held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on September 19 at Grace Life Fellowship.
