Jory served our country in the Navy during the Korean War. Jory loved to write, paint and was known across the country for the hundreds of novels he wrote about the old west. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Wilhite; four brothers, Bill Sherman, Gordon Sherman, Keith Sherman, and an infant brother, James Digger Sherman; four sisters, Sunny Lynn Bate, Kay Bell, Inka Sherman, Nancy Grant.
Jory is survived by his loving wife Charlotte (Balcom) Sherman of the home; three daughters, Janet Gimlin of Jinks, Oklahoma, Gina Jones of McAllen, Texas, Misty Loewy and husband Chris of Apple Valley, California; five sons, Marc Sherman and wife Terri of Cedarcreek, Missouri, Frank Sherman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vic Sherman of St. Petersburg, Florida, Forrest Sherman of Colton, California, Jerry Wilhite and wife Coleen of Port Orchard, Washington; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Monday, July 7th, 2014 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made to Ozark Writers League Memorial Scholarship Fund.
