Royce proudly served in the U.S. Army. He loved his work as a mechanic. Royce retired from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and the Unified School District #353 in Wellington, Kansas. His pastimes included fishing and spending time with family. In all that he did, he was personable and positive. His beloved dog Deacon will miss him. Most notably, Royce will be missed as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Tatum; two sisters: Lavon Vonier and Jane Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Marsha Tatum; and a brother-in-law, Bill Goodnight.
Royce is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Paula (Simpson) Tatum; two sons: Ed Tatum and wife Kim of Concord, North Carolina, and Andy Tatum and Stacy Steele of Derby, Kansas; four grandchildren: Justin Tatum of Concord, North Carolina, Will Tatum of Derby, Kansas, Madison Tatum of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Joselyn Steele of Derby, Kansas; nine brothers: Ronald and wife Lillie, Robert and wife Lori, Ralph and wife Cora, Ray and wife Carolyn, Rollie and wife Mary, Rex and wife Sharon, Rickie and wife Carolyn, Randy and wife Karen, and Rodney and wife Patsy; two sisters: Linda Adams and husband Willard, and Lavera Goodnight; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in memory of Royce Tatum may be made to the family. A memorial will be held at the Tatum reunion on Saturday, September 9, 2017, in Carthage, Missouri. A memorial is also planned for Wellington, Kansas, at a later date.
